BIOGRAPHY
Tyrone Malloy, MD, JD, is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist whose career has spanned clinical medicine, reproductive healthcare, academic teaching, clinical research, physician leadership, and community service.
He has practiced medicine since 1979 and has built a career centered on patient care, physician education, medical research, and expanding access to specialized reproductive healthcare.
Dr. Malloy began his undergraduate education at Howard University before continuing his studies at New York University, where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate.
Between college and medical school, he worked as a Research Assistant at Rockefeller University in New York City. That early exposure to scientific and clinical research helped shape an interest in medicine that would continue throughout his career.
Dr. Malloy went on to earn his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1975. During his time at Johns Hopkins, he developed his interest in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was introduced to the management of second- and third-trimester abortion care.
He later completed an obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency at the original Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He then served in the military reserves, continued as a gynecology consultant at Fort Reed, and concluded his active-duty military service as a lieutenant colonel.
From 1988 to 1993, Dr. Malloy earned a law degree from Georgia State University with an emphasis in health law, adding a legal and policy perspective to his medical background.
After completing his medical training and military service, Dr. Malloy established his Obstetrics and Gynecology career in Atlanta, Georgia.
Over time, his practice grew into a large multidisciplinary Ob/Gyn organization serving the metropolitan Atlanta area. The practice included physicians, midwives, registered nurses, and a broader clinical support team.
His leadership experience also included serving as Medical Director at Midtown Hospital and the Feminist Women’s Health Center, as well as Chief of Staff at DeKalb Medical Center’s Hillandale campus.
Dr. Malloy’s professional account also credits his Atlanta practice with helping establish the city’s first Emergency Room Hospitalist System.
Research has been a significant part of Dr. Malloy’s professional journey.
In 1995, while serving as Medical Director of the Feminist Women’s Health Center, he represented the southeastern United States as a Principal Investigator in five clinical trials involving Mifepristone and Misoprostol.
The data generated through those studies contributed to the FDA approval process for mifepristone for medication abortion.
Dr. Malloy also served as a Principal Investigator in research related to prenatal genetic testing, contributing clinical data used in the development of methods for earlier identification of fetal genetic abnormalities.
His broader research experience has also included work with the Soapstone Center for Clinical Research and involvement with organizations such as Natera Women’s Health and Ovid.
Dr. Malloy’s impact has extended beyond the patients he has personally treated.
In 2001, he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University School of Medicine as an adjunct clinical faculty member. His teaching included training physicians in reproductive healthcare and working with Emory’s Complex Family Planning program.
He also trained residents through Emory University and the Wellstar Ob/Gyn Residency Program in Georgia.
Through these roles, Dr. Malloy has shared decades of clinical experience with residents, fellows, and physicians developing expertise in complex reproductive healthcare.
Throughout his career, Dr. Malloy has developed extensive experience in reproductive healthcare, including second- and third-trimester abortion care, medication abortion, procedural care, fetal anomaly cases, and medically complex pregnancy circumstances.
His experience in later abortion care has placed him within a relatively small group of physicians working in an especially specialized area of reproductive medicine.
That work has included both direct patient care and the training of physicians who continue serving patients with complex reproductive healthcare needs.
Dr. Malloy joined CARE Reproductive Health in late 2022.
Following the illness and death of Dr. LeRoy Carhart and additional physician losses within the practice, Dr. Malloy took on expanded responsibilities involving clinical operations, physician recruitment, and training.
His role during this period included helping maintain access to specialized reproductive healthcare and supporting the continuity of the practice during a period of significant transition.
Dr. Malloy’s career has also included continued professional education and development.
As part of that work, he completed additional CPEP education focused specifically on electronic medical-record keeping, clinical documentation practices, and the use of EHR systems in a surgical environment.
He has continued to emphasize professional growth, clinical accountability, physician education, and the ongoing improvement of patient care.
Education has remained an important theme throughout Dr. Malloy’s life.
In addition to teaching physicians, he has supported scholarship and educational opportunities for healthcare professionals and students, including military scholarship programs and the Martin Luther King Scholarship at New York University.
His own experience as a Distinguished Military Graduate reflects a long-standing connection between education, service, and professional development.
Dr. Malloy’s commitment to service extends outside of healthcare.
He is the founder of Let a House Be a Home, a nonprofit organization focused on providing housing support to disadvantaged individuals.
The organization reflects his broader belief that health and well-being are influenced by more than clinical care alone.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Malloy enjoys spending time on his gentleman’s farm, where he cares for ducks, geese, Anatolian shepherds, chickens, a rooster, turtles, a cat, and the local wildlife that visits the property.
He is also an enthusiastic Washington Commanders fan and enjoys introducing others to football.
These interests provide a more personal side to a career that has otherwise been defined by medicine, research, education, and leadership.
